The Ameliapedia is a Wikipedia-style on line encyclopedia of information pertaining to TIGHAR’s investigation of the 1937 disappearance Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan. It is designed to provide easy access to reliable information about one of the 20th century’s greatest mysteries.

Can the mystery ever be solved?
- TIGHAR thinks it very likely can be. The Earhart Project is TIGHAR’s science-based investigation testing the hypothesis that Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan landed, and eventually died, on Gardner Island, now Nikumaroro in the Republic of Kiribati. Archival research and nine expeditions have uncovered a compelling body of supporting evidence. Archaeological excavations during the Niku VI expedition aimed to expand our understanding of the site where evidence suggests Earhart died, with the possibility of recovering artifacts from which DNA can be extracted. The expedition also includes a deep water search off the atoll’s fringing reef for the wreckage of the airplane.
