Editing pane pain
« on: February 12, 2011, 08:43:52 AM »

I'm having trouble working in the lower part of the editing pane when replying.  The pane doesn't want to stay on the part of the message I am working on unless it is near the top/beginning, so I end up typing blind and doing a lot of preview or composing offline and then pasting it in (tough technique when quoting or hyperlinking).

Am I doing something wrong, or just a victim of my own windiness?

I also have this problem with longer posts.

Do shorter ones!  ;)

What web browser do you use? I am currently on Internet Explorer 7.

IE 8.  I'm not real computer savvy, so problems like this tend to stump me.

Leaving thoughts stuck in my head is not a good option either.  They tend to fester and rot, leading to all kinds of strange things.

As far as I can tell, this is not your fault.

My copy of IE 8 does exactly the same thing.

You have choices:

  • You can carry on as before.
  • You can copy and paste to and from a text editor.
  • You can download Firefox or Chrome, both of which work OK.
  • You can buy an Apple computer and use Safari.
  • You can give up on long posts.

There are probably other options as well.   ;)

Would prefer to find a better way

Awkward to insert quotes - like this.

Had Firefox, hadn't thought to try it until your suggestion.

Buy one?  I thought it was part of my TIGHAR membership kit?  2011 version of the secret decoder ring!

Not likely.  They're too cathartic

This will work, thanks.

Thanks for cleaning that up.  I tried, but got lost and stopped before I wiped out everything.

It's a tricky business.  It took me quite a while to sort it all out.

I've taken to fixing broken posts without comment if I see a problem with tags.
