1 May, 1948 Secretary for Public Works: I refer to the Commissioner's memorandum AG/57 of 14 April, 1948, regarding reported aeroplane wreckage found at Great Gull Pond. 2. We are inclined to agree with the report submitted by Mr. Patrick Judge that the ’plane might have been at Great Gull Pond for 15-20 years as we have no knowledge of any civil aircraft being missing in this area in recent years. It will be recalled that there were a number of aircraft left Europe about twenty years ago of which no trace has since been found. 3. It does appear that we cannot or need not take any action for further investigation but probably the U.S. authorities at Argentia may be interested and it is suggested that the information might be passed on to them.
