Commander PVH Weems offered to provide Earhart with celestial navigational and radio skills, including Morse code, which he felt was necessary for overwater flight. His May 14, 1937 letter was 5 days before Earhart’s Oakland departure on the second attempt of the World Flight and was politely parried by George Putnam’s response.
