Below are photos of a wooden stave cask with a wooden "cork" or bung on a chain, possibly brass. The cask came into my possession, along with another (of similar size but rounder in cross section), when I bought my house in St. Thomas USVI in 1984 from the estate of a man who owned a nautical curio shop. One of the casks had a nautical scene painted on it at the time. I have no information about the age or origin of these casks, but given the location and the source it is not unlikely that they could be casks used on old ships from a bygone era.

As far as I know, this is the only "cork" on a brass chain that TIGHAR has located as part of the Earhart Project. Andrew McKenna TIGHAR #1045
