First Aid Kit
« on: September 17, 2012, 07:17:48 PM »

A Burroughs Wellcome & Co. Tabloid first aid kit was one of two kits in the Luke Field inventory. To my recent request, Dr. Middleton of Wellcome Trust sent the link below. It shows a Tabloid similar to what Alcock and Brown had aboard in 1919. Knowing my interest is in AE, I believe Dr. Middleton sent the link because the kit would be at least prototypic of what AE carried--given that the BW kit made the 2nd world flight. Indeed, the products are pretty standard for the pre-WWII era. BW Tabloid kit. All Best, JGF.

A 1936 example is posted in the Join the Search Section. It had contents good during the time AE went missing.  I thought if left open, perhaps to catch rain water, it may explain remains of a metal container found at the Seven site.
An example of the other first aid kit in the Luke Field inventory is here

Greg; being a relative newbie I had not yet found your great work on the first aid kits. I'll send my Wellcome Trust contact images of the Tabloid that AE very probably had aboard! All Best, JGF

John, I liked your post. After I posted the pictures, a newbie myself, I later saw a post in very old forum archives that already mentioned the possibility of the first aid kits at the Seven site. I still look for examples from time to time on ebay.

I think it is helpful that you have a contact from the company. I'm interested to hear what they have to say.   Dimensions, type and number of rivets are what I was trying to find out. Also if there were washers under the rear mounting clips on the box. And if the mounting clips had a strap that could be attached. And details of the construction of the box, for example if they had a wire that went around the edge of the lid or opening. If they had layers of metal that were folded over the wire as shown here to form a rounded edge.
