Oooops .. looks like this was old news! Just found a link on another online forum which shows this unique aviation artifact was discovered and moved to the FAA museum back in 1996!

Interesting history Russ. Thanks for posting. Who would have thought that the roots of naval aviation would go back to "lighter's" such as this.
