I first read his book, "No Surrender" in the late 70's and was in awe of his determination and resourcefulness. Although I knew he was getting up there in age, it still is saddening to hear of his passing. A true Japanes Icon.

I believe he killed a number of innocent civilians during the years of his one-man war, too.

Hiding out and refusing to surrender is a noble delusion.

When it leads to murder, it seems a whole lot less honorable to me.
