If you're going to try to decode telegrams, you need to know the callsigns used in them.  From time to time, Z-Codes might also come in handy.

The "1025" at the end of the message was the local time that this message was sent, it is not a frequency. The "18" in the first group "8018" was the date of the month that the message was sent.

The $24.00 that call cost in 1937 would buy $374.45 worth of stuff in 2011 such as a 32 inch high definition LCD TV or round trip airfare New York to Los Angeles with $108.00 left over to pay for two tickets to Disneyland. (Hmmm...I wonder what a phone call from Lae would've cost.)

The consumer price index of for July 1937 is 14.5 and for November 2011 it is 226.23. This means that the ratio between the two is 15.6 meaning everything in 2011 cost 15.6 times what it did in 1937 dollars. So to do the conversion yourself just multiply the 1937 prices by 15.6 to find what it would cost in 2011 dollars.
