The January 2011 issue of the Smithsonian Magazine has an article about the 1933 Arctic flight of Charles and Anne Lindbergh when they charted a North Atlantic route to Europe for Pan Am. The featured item of the article is a pair of snowshoes that illustrate Charles' meticulous preparations for emergencies.
Different personalities - different approaches.
“Charles could have had any co-pilot he wanted ... He had taught Anne to fly, and they were still young marrieds. She worked hard to learn Morse code and navigation, and was a true co-pilot.”
