I want to share a poem that I found that my dad wrote in late July, 1937, just a few weeks after Amelia's disappearance. Feel free to share with your readers!
For Amelia Earhart
A speck in the sea and nothing more,
No eager crowds on a friendly shore
No welcome blare of vulgar bands
Nor gentle touch of loving hands.
The wide white wings are weary of flying
The still staunch heart is gallantly trying
Only the sea, and bits of sky
Pegged out like rawhide, stiff and dry;
Only the ebb of shock abating,
Nothing but hope and endless waiting
