Monty,
Send Congress to Niku. Are you totally out of your mind?
The Democrats would deny they were even there. With the government shut down they couldn’t find any barricades to keep visitors (maybe ole Coast Guardsmen who were once station on the island) from coming ashore and there wouldn’t be twice as many security personnel to keep the beaches safe then what they dispatched to Benghazi.
I can hear Nancy now, “we’ve got to go there in order to find out why we are there without the fog of reason”. My bad, they, the Nikuien, would have to first declare their independence from the nation of Kiribati.
The Republicans would look totally perplexed as to why a joint effort couldn’t be reached basis the absence of someone who even suggested this visit in the first place. And they would wonder why the POUS has put such a high priority to help the deprived Nikuians to reach their national stature among the U.N. body of nations.
This would require another Congressional debate of how we (the U.S.) would fund such an action, etc., etc.
