Both Norwich City lifeboats washed ashore on Gardner. They were likely 26' and weighed 1800 pounds fully equipped. The bottom was cut out of one to free crewmen trapped under the capsized boat. This boat near the survivors’ camp was photographed in 1938 by the New Zealand Pacific Aviation Survey Expedition. (Courtesy , Wigram Air Force Base Archives, RNZAF)
