How to manage your ignore list
« on: June 15, 2011, 05:44:00 PM »

  • Here is a video tutorial that shows how to hide posts from members whose contributions you would rather not read.
  • Here is a direct link to the section of your Profile where you can list people you wish to ignore.
  • I have also added a direct link to the ignore list to each post.  It is the red X that you will see under their user information at the top left of every post.

Ahoy Marty:

I've been to the SMF documentation wiki and Forum FAQs, but can't find the answer as to whether or not one can "blacklist"certain Forum topics so as not to appear.

Some of the topics and their respective posts cause my eyes to cross and I'd rather not have to open those threads at all.

Or, is there a way to delete a topic from your "inbox" without having to read it first?

Thanks, Norm

I know exactly how you feel.

I went looking for that in a different forum, one in which I am free to ignore posters.  I wish I could ignore topics there, too.

Meanwhile, I've just installed a modification that, in theory, should eventually allow users to ignore topics.

It seems to be working at the board level now.  Profile / Ignore Boards Options

There is also an entry under Profile / Ignore Topics Options, but I can't find how to get topics onto that list in the first place.  I may have to edit our template by hand in order to get the gizmo to appear that would let you mark the topics you want to ignore ...

Any progress on the gizmo to allow one to mark/auto delete topics that make one's eyes cross?

Thanks, Norm

No.  I installed the gizmo and, as far as I could tell, it didn't work.

You'll just have to ignore topics by hand for now.  It's the last week of class, and I don't have time to do any remedial coding.
