Songs from Betty's notebook
« on: July 26, 2019, 03:50:13 PM »

Last evening as I was listening to the news about Robert Ballard, I was glancing at the excerpts from Betty's notebook. One thing I noticed after searching google was the first two pages of Betty's notebook (pg. 35 and pg. 38) was that Betty's writings were of songs that were sung during 1937 and that time period. "They Can't take that away from me" and "Carelessly". "Carelessly" and "They can't take that away from me" were made popular by Billie Holiday. If you follow these two pages...you will notice that these songs are word for word, and only just the first verse and the chorus. Also, in the contents of the notebook the words Marie O Marie appear several times. After searching, I found out that Tommy Dorsey recorded a song "Marie". Very interesting! In Betty's notebook on the third page we find the lady drawings (which I thought were nicely done). As discussed before, the call letters KGMB appear in the upper-right hand corner of the page. KGMB was the radio station out of Honolulu, Hawaii at the time. Anyway, Betty's father must have had one heck of an antenna, to pick up a radio station from that far of a distance. If this is the case...then the messages she heard are 99.9-100 percent credible. Anyway, wanted to share these songs with you. Neat little songs, with a big band flare, and slow and easy listening. Enjoy!!!!
