A quick update to my last post.  It turns out that the pilot of Sala's plane may not have been instrument -rated, or even night -rated.  Apparently he held a PPL, and there has been considerable discussion on other forums as to whether this flight was an example of illegal public transport.

TIGHAR Tracks 35#1 for April this year gives an estimate of $30 000 for a search in the area of Mr. Fisher's find. Wow!  Are you sure you haven't missed a couple of zeros off that? According to the BBC the search for Emiliano Sala's aircraft was crowd-funded to the tune of £324 000, about $400 000.  Thirty thousand would be a bargain IMHO.
