How to pronounce "Hoodless"?
« on: December 19, 2016, 08:43:07 PM »

Do we know how Dr. Hoodless said his last name?

Some British names are pronounced in non-obvious ways.  Taliaferro is pronounced Toliver, Cholmondely is Chumley,  Bagehot is Badge-it, St. John is Sinjen.  And there's Worcestershire.

My first guess would be to say Hood-less.  I have no idea if that's right.

Cf. ProunounceWiki, Elizabeth Hoodless.

Seems straightforward.

Eric Bevington corrected my pronunciation of Gallagher.  "Gerald always pronounced his name GALaher."

Scots Gaelic is worse.  Ghilleaspuig is pronounced Gillespie.

Speaking as a Brit, I would say Hoodless is pronounced just as it's spelt.
