Maybe these things were sewn into a strap or wrap of a canteen or other water can using the hole without a screw. Then attached the wall of the plane using the hole with the screw for use as a toilet tank or lavatory tank.  Maybe screwed to a P.W. or wood modification similar the P.W table top. A water tank / canteen would be obvious item to take to the seven site.
In the lower left of this picture with Earhart on top of the cabin tanks there appears to be a small case.  I can’t tell if it is sitting on something, hung from something, or attached to the wall. Though not the suggested detachable water tank it could be an example if something else that was secured to the wall and detachable(unscrew it) to be able to carry around. Any idea what it is? Maybe binoculars? They could be a priority too

Interesting thought, but a lot of interior modifications happened after this photo was taken February 14, 1937. It shows the frame at station 207, and there's nothing similar in the May 20, 1937 Harney diagrams at that location.
