You know, until I read that story, and saw the picture of the lady holding one of those guys, I had no real idea how frickin'  HUGE coconut crabs are. Nine ... pounds!

I just should not have clicked that link.  What a positively nightmarish creature.  Just heard recently that alligators and crocs can climb trees, too.  I am so never living near water.

FWIW, I prefer those crab legs walking AWAY from me...   :o

Makes me wonder if the coconut crabs could have been the ones to rip the 2-2-V-1 artifact off of the Electra while it sat on the reef.  Are there any claw marks on that aluminum?

There may have been only 13 bones left...because they were the only ones that didn't get consumed by one of those creatures.
