The musings of a TIGHAR cub?
« on: October 22, 2013, 08:26:40 AM »

My son's third grade social studies class had an assignment to pick a historical event of their choice, do some research and come up with 10 facts about their event. And wouldn't you know, unprompted by me or anyone else, he picked the disappearance of Amelia Earhart - probably influenced by having read an AE biography, again, of his own accord.  They then had to write a poem and incorporate some of the facts that they learned. I thought you might enjoy what he came up with.  He just turned 8 by the way

Unexplained Flight
By Ehren Collins

I took off on the 1st of June,
Amelia and I flying around the world.
Electra is my name.
Flying is my fame.

I thought we were landing on Howland Island.
Where is it?

We are lost in the
deep,
      dark
         ocean.

I’m waiting to be found.
Ships and planes are nowhere to be seen.

It’s 2013, and they’re still tracking me down.
Am I out of luck?

I still lie,
in patience,
    waiting to be found.

Man, that's what it is all about - and that is one bright youngster.

The arguments over who is right are nothing - it's that we care and bother to look and how we look for answers that matter.  That poem is an inspiration.  Well done.

Excellent work Ehren!  What a great perspective....from the airplane....realizing that IS all that is left "to be found".
Terrific!!
