"In the two-hour series premiere, Josh Gates embarks on an expedition to investigate what might be the most iconic unsolved event in the world - the disappearance of Amelia Earhart during her attempt to circumnavigate the globe in 1937. Several incredible new leads in the story take Gates on an adventure through aviation history and remote areas of the world. These clues might finally lead to answers behind the greatest cold case in history."

Sigh.

Talk about hype!   "..the most iconic unsolved event in the world????"
Josh picked up on a TIGHAR lead, crawled around under a porch and found some bones that turned out to have nothing to do with the Earhart mystery.

I won't be watching the show.

Now, now - they did equivocate, er, qualify that brash statement with "what might be"...  ::)

Just goes to show you, Lincoln was right.  Maybe even do it long enough to get people to tune in for an hour now and then.

I've come to believe that the vast majority of the public is more intrested in TV candy than truth anyway.

Hard to believe "reality" TV would be anything but real solid science!

If it's on TV or the internet, it has to be true, right?

It seems one could get the search for King Tut's lost goldfish documdramatized these days...

I've got it on good authority (read it in an online blog) that the goldfish are in Al Capone's vault, guarded by the Knights Templar.  (I'll stop now.)

Quite so, Mr. Neville sir. The term "mockumentary" seems almost over-generous to most of these efforts.

Folks, we're expecting too much out of our TV friends. Of course, they'll screw it up. But any publicity about Amelia--however inaccurate or irrelevant by our standards--is good for the TIGHAR investigation.

We just need to adjust our thinking a bit and have a little more patience (as if TIGHARs haven't been patient!!:). These whacky takes are in fact opportunities to solidify the TIGHAR brand as the only sober authority on all things Amelia.

Not the preferred or most direct method to do that, but over time very effective.

cheers,

I enjoyed it for the on-the-ground video of PNG, Lae, Ribaul, and Fiji.  It showed, at least, that looking for old airplanes in the Pacific can be difficult.

Is it serious, useful television?  No, of course not, TV is all about ratings, not truth.  Our Fearless Leader did get a bit of on-camera time but generally, TIGHAR does not get a lot of coverage here.

How can you have an Expedition Unknown?  Is that supposed to be catchy, or clever?  Why not just call the show Expedition Non Sequitur?

I like to watch them on occassion for the entertainment value.  Finding Amelia, Finding Bigfoot, Finding ???.  They never find anything, if they did it would be one show and not a season and no way to get a 2nd season.  Its all about the ratings.  Although, You must admit that Josh Gates is real jackass, err good actor...

Just watched it on Demand.  I thought it was great...and gave Tighar, and one Ric Gillespie, some good and deserved credibility.  And it eliminated a couple of potential distracting theories.  Looking forward to the results of tests on the bones found under the house.  Who knows!  Also keeps the mystery going without Tighar having to do it.
