Future of the crash and sink hypothesis
« on: December 25, 2012, 12:00:25 PM »

With respect to the hypothesis that AE and FN crashed their plane into waters west of Howland Island, Elgen Long has not commented on the debris field found during the Niku VII expedition and identified by Jeff Glickman. At 85 years old, he may feel heartbroken that none of the expeditions to Howland Island (1999 Williamson and Associates expedition, 2002 and 2006 Nauticos expeditions, and 2009 Waitts Institute expedition) found any evidence of Earhart's Electra, and because TIGHAR believes that their hypothesis is the most likely one (even though retrieval of the debris field during Niku VIII is necessary to confirm that it is from the Electra, despite the fact that the debris field is far north of the Norwich City wreck), Long may abandon his hypothesis altogether if a planned 2013 Nauticos expedition to Howland Island fails to find the Electra. If Elgen Long dies before Niku VIII sets sail for Nikumaroro, some proponents of the crash and sink hypothesis may support the Nikumaroro hypothesis if they are convinced that the wreckage found in the debris field bears resemblance to the landing gear of an aircraft and they feel that the crash and sink hypothesis has already been tested before.

I have never though that Long's NW theory is correct. If she splashed and sank I'm putting my money SW of Howland.
