Title: Time and Date Calculations
Post by: Martin X. Moleski, SJ on January 10, 2012, 08:50:27 AM
In trying to put together a table of message traffic to and from Lae (http://tighar.org/wiki/Delayed_in_Lae#Message_Traffic), I've discovered that I cannot reliably calculate times and dates in my head.

I've tried to assemble some information about timezones in an article on the wiki (http://tighar.org/wiki/Timezones).

I would appreciate some feedback about whether my description of the issues involved and whether my derived tables are correct.

Thanks.

This is a cheat-sheet I've used for years.

Thanks, Ric!

I think I've reproduced it in a spreadsheet.

Looks good.  Should help.

It's a lot safer than me doing time operations in my head.  :-\

I've done a wiki table of the same (http://tighar.org/wiki/Timezones#Ric.27s_Cheatsheet), with links to two .pdf versions.

Thank You Marty and Ric.  That's much easier to work with.

Also take a look at my old post here (https://tighar.org/smf/index.php/topic,433.msg5362.html#msg5362).

The sign convention is that used by navigators and the Navy since they are interested in finding GMT, also known as GCT, UTC and Z (Zulu time), starting from the local time shown on the onboard clocks.

Thanks--that explains it! I've added a footnote.
