Title: IE 8 image problem
Post by: Dan Swift on October 26, 2011, 09:42:13 AM
Is it just me, or does anyone else have problems seeing any of Sheila's pictures (http://tighar.org/smf/index.php/topic,497.0.html)?  I can not view them unless she also posts the jpeg file.

I see them.

I'm using Firefox 8.0 beta on Windows 7.

What are you using?

IE 8 on XP Pro.

Others seem to have had the same problem (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie8-windows_other/can-no-longer-see-some-pictures-on-webpages-and/acfa8298-3dac-480f-835b-f9890b36bc2e).

Are you running any real-time virus protection?

I see the images OK with IE 8 on W7.

Thanks Marty!
Not going to upgrade to "7" just to see these images.  No red "X" icon.  A image icon...it just will not open or display the image.  Yes, I have Norton Internet on all 3 computers (all XP Pro) and none can see Sheila's images.
First time I have ever seen this so.........no problem seeing other images.  Her jpeg she posted of the "rods" was perfect.  Something about these images I guess XP or Norton doesn't like.
Looked over the link you sent, but nothing seemed to be applicable.  I am NO IT guy as you can tell.

P.S.  Here is the image file info if that helps anyone.

The images I posted recently were quite large - if your network imposes data limits, that may be preventing you from loading anything above a certain size.

Are you able to see this image below?  It's quite small (10kb):

No...and it's like the file doesn't exist other than a file name.
Here are the properties of this image:
File Name:  A1405_tn.jpg
Protocol:     Not Available
Type:          Not Available
Address:     Not Available
 (URL)
Size:           Not Available
Deminsions:  28 X 30 Pixels
Created:     Not Available
Modified:     Not Available

I have at least 4 different picture programs from Photo Editor, Window Picture Viewer, Adobe, Picasa, but don't get the opportunity to "open with" any program.

You're able to see the image if you click on this link, tho, correct?

Dan,

Give this a try.  Click on "Tools", then scroll to and click on "Internet Options"; when the Internet Options box pops up click the tab labelled "Advanced" and near the bottom of the page you will see the option to Reset Internet Explorer Settings to their Default Condition, click the button labelled "Reset".  This will restore your settings but it may also change your homepage, so be prepared to change your homepage back to the one of your liking if it changes it.

Don

Sheila,
Yes, opening the link to the picture was no problem.

Don,
Thanks...I will give it a try.

Thanks to both!

Don,
Thanks...I will give it a try.

I work as an IT Analyst and this is a common fix for similiar issues such as yours that we use on client PCs.  It usually is caused by a loss of the file association your browser uses to display the images.

Thank Don, but it made no difference.  Still just small image icon in a box that does not open.
Right click on it and I get a "show image" option, but it doesn't do anything.
Again, I have 3 computers here I have tried and none of them open those images.  The first one Shiela posted that included the thumbnail was no problem...and the actual link to the photo was no problem.  XP Pro with IE 8 obviously will not open these.

Sorry that didn't work for you.  I had no problems with any of them on a computer with XP Pro and IE8.

By any chance have you ever had Roxio on your PC
Or addditional virus or software eg SpyBot   AVG
Have you tried unistalling  IE 8 which will roll it back to see if prievious Browser settings work.  Then reinstall IE 8
Is you win update coupled with Microsoft Update ?

Dan,

This morning I tried my wife's laptop, which has IE 8 and Win 7 installed, to see if it exhibited your problem. It did. A Security Warning (http://blog.httpwatch.com/2009/04/23/fixing-the-ie-8-warning-do-you-want-to-view-only-the-webpage-content-that-was-delivered-securely/)
that appeared when I tried to view a problem page provided a clue that enabled me to find a solution.

Do the following in IE 8:

Select Tools - Internet options - Security

Select Internet zone, if it's not already selected

Click the Custom level... box

In the Settings window, scroll down to Display mixed content and select Enable

Click OK twice to close out the dropdowns
