Title: How do I find my way around tighar.org?
Post by: Martin X. Moleski, SJ on August 22, 2009, 12:04:21 PM
There are four big gateways into TIGHAR's website:

http://tighar.org (http://tighar.org) -- The basic home page for TIGHAR.  Links to all of the projects and other sections of the website.

http://tighar.org/news (http://tighar.org/news) -- The news area (or news 'n' views--potential for blogs yet to be developed.).

https://tighar.org/smf/index.php (https://tighar.org/smf/index.php) -- The Forum.  Where you are now, I think.

http://tighar.org/wiki/Ameliapedia (http://tighar.org/wiki/Ameliapedia) -- The Ameliapedia.  It is like Wikipedia.  An encyclopedia to preserve, organize, and present the results of TIGHAR's research.

On many pages, you'll find a lineup of instrument faces that act as links to TIGHAR's projects.  On many pages, left-hand menus contain the same links to help you navigate the site.

The news area has a site map (http://tighar.org/news/site-map) that lists all of the articles in the news area.

Marty:

I suggest a button be added at the home page that will allow a jump directly into the Forum. If I understand it right, as it is currently configured, from the home page, one must go into "Latest News" and then go to the Forum from there.

Not criticizing, just saying!  :)

You seem to be right that there is no such button on the home page. (http://tighar.org)

Pat is in charge of that page, so providing such a button is up to her.

Meanwhile, you may do as I have done and put a bookmark in your browser so that you can come to the Forum from anywhere without having to visit either the home page (http://tighar.org) or the news section. (http://tighar.org/news)  The URL to come straight here is: https://tighar.org/smf/index.php (https://tighar.org/smf/index.php).

I use Firefox with Google Toolbar.  One or the other gives me a bookmarks toolbar across the top of my browser:

To create my own "button" for the forum, I just drag the URL down to the toolbar, then edit the properties under Bookmarks/Bookmarks Toolbar so that the names are short and sweet:

Hope that helps.
