Title: Amelia Earhart Dedication in U.S. Capitol (Statutory Hall)
Post by: Randy Conrad on July 27, 2022, 09:00:57 PM
Thought this would bring a smile to all you Tighar researchers out there. As I was watching this I thought about the long research and expedition hours spent on Niku and the dedication by those of you who have given to this project. Let us not forget our own captain, Ric Gillespie for all the long days and nights he has spent keeping this project afloat and the knowledge that Amelia has landed and she is on Niku. Thanks Ric!!! (CLAPPING & APPLAUSE). In the video Congressman Jerry Moran from Kansas who is a friend of mine made a comment about Amelia having a belt buckle with a sunflower on it. Is there anyone with knowledge on this particular buckle? Again thanks to Ric, Pat, and those of you who have supported this project for many years. As a Kansan it makes me smile for Amelia and the respect, honor, and dedication she received by the unveiling of her bronze statue in the U. S  Capitol in Statutory Hall! It's about time!!!

Thanks Randy but this belongs in News, Views, etc.
BTW, my name is Gillespie, not Gillepsie. It was Gillespy until about 1800.  The original Scots Gaelic spelling was Ghillespuig.

States get to choose who they want honored with a statue in the Capitol.
Amelia joins such notables as John C. Calhoun (SC), Jefferson Davis (MI), and Huey Long (LA).
It's all political.  Earhart is great for Kansas tourism.

Well, if we're into spelling precision, let's be sure to associate Jefferson Davis with Mississippi (MS) and not Michigan (MI).  :D

Yeah- I was wondering WHY my state of Michigan would be honoring the president of the Confederate States of America!

And if we're going to correct spelling errors, it's Statuary Hall, not Statutory Hall (an understandable confusion).
