Title: Own a microscopic piece of AE jacket of unknown provenance!
Post by: Denise Kelsey on April 15, 2022, 02:54:45 PM
Sad that you missed out on the helmet?  For only $800 - less than one-tenth of one percent of what AE's helmet sold for - you can have a 1/4" (if that) piece of fabric allegedly from "a flight jacket" worn by AE.  Comes with Certificate of Authenticity and Holographic Sticker Seal!

I would love to know what methods they used to "authenticate" this.  At best, somewhere there's a museum with a hole cut out of one of her jackets.

Thanks Denise, in contrast to the seriously doubtful cap/helmet, this item is unquestionably a highly valuable fragment of something from whatever. Anyone can clearly see contemporaneous photographic proof of that sliver of material in many published photographs of AE during the relevant timeframe. I'll be glad to pledge $0.01 for DNA testing.

This is another and greater instance of something whose value is only in its supposed connection to a famous person. Provenance is everything, unless the object has intrinsic value (like gold). And I can think of a lot better things on which to spend money.
