Title: Epic Irony
Post by: Ric Gillespie on February 11, 2021, 08:49:58 AM
A TIGHAR member recently told me:
"I just noticed on SpaceX's launch manifest that they are contracted to launch 3 replacement GPS satellites, the second, GPS III-06, will be named Amelia Earhart - later this year, no date given yet."

The wise man say, "He who laugh last not get joke."

This took me almost a full minute to see the irony.

But I am laughing now!   :-\

Maybe the next GPS satellite will be named "Douglas Corrigan."

Corrigan actually got where he intended to go. The "wrong way" story was to account for his flying where he didn't have permission to go.

It could be one of a series:

Satellite Amelia Earhart: Flies off into space and is never seen again, send signals but no one can find it.
Satellite Fred Noonan: Consumes excessive amounts of electricity, flies erratically off course and ends up south of its intended position.
Satellite Harry Manning: Stops working halfway through the mission and returns to Earth.
