Title: Sir Harry Luke
Post by: Ric Gillespie on October 06, 2017, 12:51:12 PM
A TIGHAR member who is writing a paper on the Earhart disappearance wanted a better image of Itasca C.O. Warner Thompson than the grainy newspaper clipping that seems to be the only likeness available.  He engaged the services of an artist with the result shown below.  We could get the same artist to do a color rendering of the attached photo of Sir Harry Luke - another key player for whom we don't have a good photo.  The cost would be about $275.  Would anyone care to sponsor that?

There is a copyright notice at the bottom of a webpage (http://www.batsav.com/pages/sir-harry-luke-s-memories-of-georgia-with-wardrop.html) that contains the text of an extract from Sir Harry's "Extracts from Vol. II—"Ægean, Cyprus, Turkey, Transcaucasia & Palestine (1914-1924)"—of Sir Harry Luke's Cities and Men — An Autobiography (London: Geoffrey Bles, 1953)."

The webpage (http://www.batsav.com/pages/sir-harry-luke-s-memories-of-georgia-with-wardrop.html) has a color photo of a striking portrait of Sir Harry Luke, dressed to the nines in military regalia.

Wow!  The crummy photograph is obviously from that portrait.  We just need permission to use the photo of the portrait.  Great job!
