... and thinking about what will be happening tomorrow, I am moved to quote from a verse more than 2,400 years old (apologies in advance):

"So in the Casper fable it is told,
That once an eagle, stricken by a dart,
Said, when he saw the fashion of the shaft,
'With our own feathers, not by other's hands,
Are we now smitten.' "
