At 16°51′53.748″N 11°57′13.362″E in the Sahara desert there is an intriguing landmark - the outline of an aeroplane pointing in the direction of Paris. Visible on satellite pictures, this beautiful image, like a tattoo on the landscape, has been a viral hit.

Ah! See I failed to do a link and stuff  >:(

And i'm supposed to be an IT guy  :-[  :-[  :-[  :-[

Get use to it Chris. As we grow older, as some of us already are, we have more and more "senior moments" when we lose track of what we meant to say. ;D

For those who might want to see the memorial on Google Maps, here are the coordinates converted to Decimal Degrees to enter into the window for Google Maps.       16.86493, 11.9537016

Excellent find. I've been doing some mapping work for the British Library and whilst checking locations in the Sahara, found photos on Google Earth and visible evidence of allied air force fuel dumps from WWII marked out in empty British "flimsy" fuel cans. Plus a couple of wrecked wartime vehicles.
