Title: Lysander -- Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum
Post by: Martin X. Moleski, SJ on May 08, 2010, 09:08:35 AM
From a non-TIGHAR friend:

Back in the early 90's I was involved in the Lysander restoration project at the Niagara Falls airport.

After many years of working on the fuselage and flying surfaces, we couldn't get a workable engine or financing for one so the plane ended up at the Canadian warplane heritage museum.

It finally got finished in 2009.

I think it is one of only two flyable Lysanders in the world.

The video also shows some pictures of the horrid condition of the plane and engine when first retrieved out of the field it had been sitting in for a LONG time.

Lysanders were used to deliver and retrieve spies covertly at night by landing in farmers fields using 3 small oil lamps set in a dog leg fashion, indicating the otherwise invisible runway.

Those pilots had guts!
