Title: NHHC's plan to recover one of the Devastators
Post by: Michael Karl Zuschlag on October 23, 2026, 09:31:42 PM
Widely watched YouTuber and unaffiliated naval historian Drachinifel interviews Sam Quar (sp?) of the USN Naval Heritage and History Command. He is the government lead for the project to recover one of the Jaluit Atoll Devastators.

YouTube - The Devastator Project - Naval History and Heritage Command salvage a WW2 icon  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yg92wKpTAlQ)

The massive project is a collaboration with Air/Sea Heritage Foundation, Texas A&M University's Center for Maritime Archaeology and Conservation, and Marshall Islands government officials. Consistent with TIGHAR goals, the ultimate plan is to not restore/rebuild the Devastator but display it as is in a new National Museum of the United States Navy.

Sam credits TIGHAR's contributions several times throughout the video.

Thanks, Michael.

Sounds like a good plan, all things considered.
