Title: How to translate links from the old Forum into links in the new Forum
Post by: Martin X. Moleski, SJ on June 25, 2024, 11:55:02 AM
In order to make the Forum function on the new website, I had to do a major update of the version of the Forum in order for it to be compatible with PHP 8.x.x.

That introduced a change in the method used to link to topics and messages.

Here is a link that used to bring up a particular topic in the old Forum. Now it does not.

https://tighar.org/smf/topic,165.0.html (https://tighar.org/smf/topic,165.0.html)

This is what the link looks like in the updated Forum:

https://tighar.org/smf/index.php?topic=165 (https://tighar.org/smf/index.php?topic=165)

So if you have the topic number from an old link, put that number in this form, replacing xxxx with the actual digits of the number of your topic:

https://tighar.org/smf/index.php?topic=xxxx

Here is a different kind of dead link found in the body of an old post. It has both a topic number and a message number.

https://tighar.org/smf/topic,1898.msg41144.html#msg41144 (https://tighar.org/smf/topic,1898.msg41144.html#msg41144)

This needs to be changed to this form for it to work:

https://tighar.org/smf/index.php?topic=1898.msg41144#msg41144 (https://tighar.org/smf/index.php?topic=1898.msg41144#msg41144)

Here is the formula for you to use if you have an old link with both a topic number (xxxx) and a message number (yyyyy).
