Title: Modern Day Amelia
Post by: Steve Lyle Gunderson on August 01, 2013, 10:45:57 AM
I saw a story about a new attempt to complete Amelia's trip by another Amelia on the local news this morning, so I googled 'Amelia'. I found this Facebook site (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Amelia-Rose-Earhart/158131920879331). Might be interesting to follow her for a while.

Thanks for posting this, pretty interesting.  I wonder how, or if, they will replicate the Lae-Howland leg.

If TIGHAR is on Niku at the time, maybe they would be willing to do a fly by?

I have been keeping tabs on this for awhile, glad to see she's finally picked a date.

That 1560 Mile maximum range ain't gonna cut it.  I guess I need to read more about it.
But, I would go with her.....anywhere!   Wow!   And a pilot too!

Yes,good looking lady.

Has she ever given her opinion on what she thought happened to AE and FN?

I just couldn't pass this one up.

If she is faithfully recreating the flight, maybe TIGHAR has an ROV or some SONAR equipment they would like to send along?

I also wonder about her route. The quick little graphic map in the news clip looks like they will fly Lae-Howland-Hawaii, but unless they only intend an overflight, landing at howland isn't an option, is it? No real strip any longer and no fuel. So she will need flight capabilities to fly from Lae to Hawaii non-stop. Will be interesting.

Here's a link to her discussion regarding her route.  Also on the Today Show.
