Welcome, friend! Thanks for coming to visit and/or to participate in the Forum.
We're glad to have you with us. I hope you will enjoy the Forum as much as I have.
One way to make this a more pleasant experience for you and others would be to take a little time to familiarize yourself with the Forum setup as well as with resources readily available to help you find your way around the website.
Information about the Forum
We have an entire board devoted to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the Forum. (http://tighar.org/smf/index.php/board,1.0.html) The words you see in blue in the previous sentence are "link." Anytime you see words in blue in any post, chances are very good that you can put your cursor over the words, click on the link, and go see for yourself what the author is referring to.
It is a courtesy to provide links in your posts so that people can go see for themselves what you are talking about. There is a tutorial in the Forum FAQs (http://tighar.org/smf/index.php/topic,127.0.html) that shows some methods of inserting links in your posts.
There are many other useful tutorials in the Forum FAQs that will help you to post to the Forum (http://tighar.org/smf/index.php/topic,211.0.html), insert images into posts (http://tighar.org/smf/index.php/topic,128.0.html), trim quoted material from your posts (http://tighar.org/smf/index.php/topic,392.0.html), modify one of your posts (http://tighar.org/smf/index.php/topic,453.0.html), etc.
If you have a question about how the Forum works and don't find it in the FAQs, you may make a post in "It oughta be a FAQ." (http://tighar.org/smf/index.php/topic,929.msg18756.html#msg18756)
Please note well:
- This is a moderated Forum (http://tighar.org/smf/index.php/topic,343.0.html).
- We have some guidelines for how to engage in civil discourse (http://tighar.org/smf/index.php/topic,377.0.html). It's OK to disagree with TIGHAR and with other Forum participants, but it not OK to be disagreeable.

Marty,
What happened to the forum's ability to show only the "unread" postings just after logon?

Dear Ted,
I have answered this in private messaging.
I have answered this with a picture in the last thread in which you asked it (http://tighar.org/smf/index.php/topic,1330.msg27602.html#msg27602).
I will answer it again here, if you wish.
If you still do not understand the answer, I am going to put you on hand-moderation until you start reading replies to your questions.
This is a link (http://tighar.org/smf/index.php?action=unread) that will do what you wish. Bookmark the link and use it to navigate to the Forum.
Alternatively, click on the thumbnail below. It shows you how to summon unread posts from the top of the page.

Monty,
I think I got it! Know it something you have to execute as before it was automatic.

Monty,
Is anyone else having trouble with pulling up TIGHAR web site using WWW.TIGHAR.ORG?
Ted Campbell

I haven't heard of other people having problems.
I just tried www.tighar.org, and it became tighar.org and brought up the front page.
If you have a specific link other than that, let me know, and I will try to debug it.

I've had the same problem the past few days. At first I thought the tighar website was down. Then realized starting with the "www" would return an error, and I just needed to type in tighar.org or https://tighar.org.
ICANN domain lookup seems to be suddenly a little more specific.

Same problem here. Had to delete my old link on my favorites bar/list and re-read it.
No clue why.

All,
I found that you had to add an s to the "http" address to get to TIGHAR i.e. https/tighar.org

Ted
The properly punctuated URL is https://tighar.org (https://tighar.org)
The "https" protocol means that every transaction between your computer and the server is encrypted.
