PS: my "Show unread posts... " never flags 'Chatterbox>Extraneous exchanges' or I would have seen and replied sooner.
Bummer.
You might be able to edit your profile to change that--I'm not sure.
Meanwhile, I'll take a peek in Admin and see if I set it up wrongly.
Thanks for the feedback ...
Back from fishing around for a solution.
No joy in Admin or Profile ...

... my "Show unread posts... " never flags 'Chatterbox>Extraneous exchanges' ...
I can't find out how to modify the behavior of "Show unread posts since last visit."
I haven't noticed whether it works for me or not. I usually just scroll down the page looking for the lighted-up TIGHAR icon (it is a rare and happy experience when one is lit).
If anyone knows how to tweak this, we need your help. This is Simple Machines Forum software.

Well, DUH... I've been checking this website on an almost daily basis for months and never noticed the "lighted-up TIGHAR icons". Thank you, Sir, for enlightening me.

I'm glad it helped. Pat Thrasher, of course, is the graphic genius behind the icons.
(I will pass over your pun in silence. Deep, mournful, silence. The silence of the Rockies in a snowstorm. The impenetrable silence of a Zen monk. When I have nothing to say, I don't say it.)

Well, thank you,
they are all showing now!
Excellent forum software and just 'operator-error' on my end I'm sure.

"The way to do is to be."
Which is to say, "I didn't make the situation better. It just happened." :)

Thank the higher power to whom you say thanks--it wasn't I who made it work.
It may just be that there are so few posts in this section that it just didn't register with you that it was, in fact, being covered by the "new message" function.
And the "new message" function does not count the author's own posts as new messages. There has to be a post by someone else for the system to report it to you as an unread post.
