This is a Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero, upright on its right gear. The right wing is intact to 1.5 meter outboard of the gear. The left wing retains red paint showing the Japanese Hinomaru “meat ball” insignia. The heavily corroded engine has become separated from the fuselage and is located behind the airframe. The tail section aft of the cockpit area is standing on its end in a bomb crater some 18 meters southeast of the wings and fuselage.
