The Waitt Institute for Discovery and Nauticos conducted a deep-water search near Howland Island from 6 February to 16 May 2009, based on the theory that NR16020 splashed and sank shortly after the last transmission from Earhart and Noonan.


  • "Final Flight" includes a short video of a morning approach by helicopter to Howland Island. It shows how difficult it might have been to spot Howland from an altitude of 1000'.
