FAQ: Hand-Crank Generator
« on: June 23, 2012, 10:32:56 AM »

When I visited Washington D.C. a couple of weeks ago, I ran across something at the smithsonian, that caught my eye, and wanted someone to share their insight on how this is suppose to work! Apparently, all this time, I've been thinking that they started the Electra for brief periods by starting the engine to use the radio. Confused on this newspaper clipping???

I think, but could not put my finger on why right now, that we determined that there was no evidence that she had such a hand cranked generator / radio, and that the source of this was speculation.

It was something that Paul Mantz or Geo. Putnam said that was picked up by the media and repeated as fact, but for which there is no supporting evidence.

Paul Mantz said she may have had one once, but did not have it on the fatal flight.
