No surprise at all, unfortunately. The storms get more intense, the waves get more intense, the storm overwash on parts of the island gets more intense, and things disappear.

And more of Amelia and Fred's legacy disappears.

I have several friends in New Zealand. They all say this fellow was simply a guest who'd overstayed his welcome to leach off the Kiwi's generosity. His claims of being a "global warming refugee" were just a convenient excuse.
It's not too late to be great.
