Your link to the paper is not very useful, since it does not lead directly to the research paper. Besides which, the co-author of the paper, Richard Wright, posted a direct link to the paper (as published in Journal of Archaeological Science) last night elsewhere on this Forum. Richard Wright is emeritus professor in the Department of Archaeology at the University of Sydney in Australia.
