Landing Channel
« on: July 14, 2014, 10:04:13 AM »

Just been on a walking holiday along the North Coast of Devon, UK where they used to import culm, a mixture of anthracite and limestone which was burnt in kilns to produce fertiliser for the local farmers.  In some areas to get it to shore they blasted channels in the shoreline to get to the beach.  Look familiar?

Sure does.  At first glance I thought it was a photo of the channel at Nikumaroro.

Just goes to show that blasting a channel in the reef made a huge difference to these operations and was worth what must have been a considerable effort.
