You can link to a forum post directly.
To collect the URL for a specific post, click on the subject of a post.
So, for example, the subject of this post is "How to link directly to a Forum post."
If you run your cursor over this subject, an underline will appear beneath it, and your mouse pointer will change to a pointing finger.
Click on the subject line.
The URL for that particular post will then appear in the address bar of your browser.
Select and copy the URL from your browser.
Then you are ready to paste the link into another post (http://tighar.org/smf/index.php/topic,127.0.html).
Q: Why should I use a link rather than giving a thread and post number?
A:
- Because threads can be moved and post numbers change when posts are deleted from a thread; a link fashioned using the technique described in this post will always point to the intended post.
- Because it is a courtesy to your readers so that they can follow your line of reasoning simply by clicking on the link. This is the Tao of the Internet.
