For those who can't wait until the October release of the movie "Amelia," here's a link to the trailer I found.

Those of us who tend to stick to the facts regarding Amelia and Fred will have to keep in mind that the film is billed as a historical "drama." Still, looking at the trailer, it appears that they did make an honest effort to get the basic facts right.

I just hope the TIGHAR website will be ramped up for the interest (and hopefully $$$$$) this is bound to generate.

I hope so, too.

We resized our slice a couple of weeks ago because we were headed over our bandwidth limit for the original slice.

It takes about one business day to get the site resized.  We go up in RAM, diskspace, and bandwidth with each resize request.  We can also resize downward when and if the traffic declines again.

Bottom line: we have a game plan.  But "no plan of battle survives contact with the enemy."  :(

We had a surge of interest in the site generated by the release of the movie trailer and the consequent interviews that Ric did with news agencies from around the world.

We've just completed our billing cycle and it shows that the surge faded.

The Internet Movie DataBase (IMDB) has got a section devoted to the movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1129445/), including a discussion forum.  I'm going to bookmark the page and try to keep up with the threads over there.

I don't know how to predict what kind of interest may be generated in this site by the movie.  I suppose a lot depends on how good the movie is.  That remains to be seen (pun intended; you may laugh now).   ;)

I wonder if the local theater would let me hawk a carton of Earhart Project T-shirts outside ...

Five clips from Amelia are available here:

http://itsjustmovies.com/2700 (http://itsjustmovies.com/2700)

Looks like they've left Manning and Mantz out of the first attempt to fly to Howland (which ended with the ground-loop on takeoff from Luke Field).  They're also showing an asphalt or concrete runway instead of the steel plates actually on the airstrip she was using.

Ah, well ...

Now, now, remember, this is Hollyweird ... I am hoping it comes to a theater within 50 miles of me this weekend. Even my daughter is making noises about wanting to go!

I don't see any listings in Buffalo yet.  May take it a while to get here.

First review (http://www.screendaily.com/reviews/amelia/5007067.article) I've seen from someone who has seen the movie.

"Two-time Academy Award winner Hilary Swank can’t give any lift to Amelia, a soggy, un-engaging biopic of Amelia Earhart, the American aviatrix who rose to fame with her transatlantic flights in the 1930s but disappeared in a later attempt to circumnavigate the globe. An attractively packaged but dramatically inert hagiography, the film feels so utterly designed not to offend, shock or confuse any potential age group that it ends up saying nothing of consequence about its subject."

Looks like they've left Manning and Mantz out of the first attempt to fly to Howland

Mantz only flew as far as Hawaii -- it was Earhart, Manning, and Noonan aboard NR16020 for the attempted flight to Howland.  Either way, Amelia and Fred seem to be the only ones who made the cut for the movie -- Paul and Harry are nowhere to be seen (in the plane or on the ground).

Filmic storytelling is all about streamlining and effeciency.  The many advisors who actually consulted on AE's planning would be only so much clutter in a two hour movie.   I suspect that, given the emphasis placed on her relationaship with Vidal (plus the "map scene" on the web), most all of their contributions have been consolidated in Gene.

Getting low marks early on.

Panned by the NYT: "an exasperatingly dull movie."
