Title: Case Closed - But Not Closed Down
Post by: Ric Gillespie on July 29, 2018, 08:43:45 AM
In 1988 TIGHAR set out to test the hypothesis that the Earhart/ Noonan flight ended on Gardner Island, now Nikumaroro.  For thirty years we have tested that hypothesis with rigorous research and a dozen expeditions.  It is now clear that the hypothesis is supported by an abundance of archival, photographic, archaeological, anthropological, and radio evidence.  Whether we’ll ever be able to conclusively answer the question of whether any significant portion of the Electra has survived depends, as always, upon the availability of sponsorship - but unless and until someone finds the airplane somewhere else or comes up with documented alternative explanations for all the solid, quantitative evidence that says Earhart and Noonan were on the island, the only reasonable conclusion is that they were there.  This Forum has been a powerhouse of research throughout TIGHAR's investigation. We will continue to develop the immense volume of data we’ve collected to see how much more we can learn about the last days of Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan.
