Title: Itasca's Radio Receivers
Post by: Bruce W Badgrow on August 14, 2014, 04:57:35 PM
I have found that the Itasca had two CGR 32-1 radio receivers in the radio room. These would be the receivers that the Itasca listened to Amelia Earhart's radio transmissions on. The CGR 32-1 was a rack mounted, military version of an RCA AR 60 communications receiver that was built special for the Coast Guard. The CGR 32-1 was solidly built using high quality parts. It was quite stable and stood up well in a rigorous shipboard environment. The front panel looks quite crude by todays standards. One odd thing was that the main tuning dial was marked 0 to 100. The CGR 32-1 was designed to be used by trained radio operators.
