2.   If there was no damage to the door, how water tight would the fuselage have been during high tide.  Would the tail end have filled with water to the level of the tide and then had to drain (slowly?) as the tide
The fuselage would not be fully water tight but it should be pretty good.  I think the tailwheel area in particular would be open to the water. I agree that if the whole empennage filled with water it would put a tremendous strain on the fuselage in the patch area.  I would think that an engineering study would be pretty complicated.  You’d have to calculate the volume of the empennage and the weight of the water versus the strength of the (weakened) structure.



Question, If the water level inside the tail section is the same as the water level of the sea outside the tail section, would there be any discernable increase in weight or stress caused by the flooding? If the tail section retained water as the tide recedes then I would think there would be an increase in weight load, but if the water drains out at the same rate as the tide recedes the water levels should remain equal. No?

I think it would depend on how large or small the holes were that were letting the seawater in and out. 

If holes were large, I'd agree with this.  If small, maybe not so much.

As a test, here's a jpeg that gives us a rare view (over AE's left shoulder) of part of the inside of the nav window that was later replaced with the patch.
