I thought you were actively using it, Ric, are you? Pat ========================================================================= Date: Fri, 21 Nov 1997 09:37:17 From: Ric Gillespie Subject: Welcome from Ric Gillespie Hi. I'm Ric Gillespie, Executive Director of TIGHAR and moderator of The Amelia Earhart Search Forum. For something over a year now, our relatively small group of experts and archaeological team members have been coordinating much of the research and expedition planning for the Earhart Project via email. At the same time, a growing number of TIGHAR members and not-yet TIGHAR members have been expressing a wish to have more frequent updates as to how the project is progressing and have a chance to ask questions and contribute their ideas. For a while, we tried putting out email updates to anyone who was interested, but the list soon grew too long for our software to handle. Restricting the list to TIGHAR members only defeated the purpose of spreading the word about the exciting work that is being done. Finally, through a system of Research Bulletins mounted on our website (http://www.tighar.org) and this email list service provided by L-Soft, we found what we hope will be an efficient and economical way to open up the Earhart Project to anyone who wishes to participate. As the moderator of this forum, I encourage you to ask questions, answer questions, challenge conclusions, express opinions, and offer suggestions. It is my intention to do as little moderating as possible. We're fortunate to have many experts in a wide variety of fields who can bring their knowledge and experience to bear on this fascinating subject, but it's a tough puzzle and we need all the help we can get. Our aim is to move the project forward toward our ultimate goal - the recovery of conclusive physical evidence that will solve the mystery of the Earhart/Noonan disappearance once and for all. You'll find a great deal of information about what we've learned so far on the TIGHAR website and as new results come in I'll be posting them there and alerting everyone via this forum. You can then go to the website, check out the latest findings, and discuss them here. As a matter of fact, a new Research Bulletin concerning a photograph which may show Earhart's wrecked aircraft circa 1948 should be mounted later today. Take a look, see what you think, and let's talk about it. To send a message for posting on this forum just send it to: Earhartforum@home.ease.lsoft.com Best regards, Ric Gillespie
