“Wednesday, July 7, 1937. Got up very early in morning — took a look at the wardroom clock it read 4:30 a.m. Unable to go back to sleep so decided to sit out morning on quarterdeck. At about 5:30 a.m. watched the Colorado and the “itsybitsy” Itasca signalling with searchlights. Took a far off picture of the Colorado at 6:30 a.m.; then tried on another one as we got closer. Cameras became taboo after that period.” | |||||||||||
